1. Who is Sarah McLachlan?

Sarah was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on January 28, 1968. The identity of her biological parents is not known but she was given to the McLachlan family who legally adopted her. Although the identity of her adoptive parents is not similarly known, her adoptive father has been identified as a marine biologist. She began experimenting with music at the age of four, starting with the ukulele. Sarah joined the Maritime Conservatory of Music to study classical piano and classical guitar, as well as to train her voice. His training was achieved through the program of the Royal Conservatory of Music.

At age 17, while still studying at Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax, Sarah founded a transitional rock band called The October Game. She signed a recording contract with Nettwerk, an independent label based in Vancouver. It was after rock band The October Game’s first gig at Dalhousie University, which had debuted for Moev. However, her adoptive parents wanted her to complete high school and continue to spend a year at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Sarah was able to sign with Nettwerk a few years later, even without writing a single track. She met her biological mother at 19 after being introduced by a mutual friend, but showed no interest in bonding with her.

McLachlan recorded his first album called Toucher in 1987 and it was a huge commercial success. After the album’s release, she embarked on a tour where she opened for Canadian rock band The Grapes of Wrath. In 1991, she released her breakthrough album Réconfort which made her a household name in the country. With hits like T The Path of Thorns (Terms) and Into the Fire, Solace was indeed a smash hit that crossed borders and topped many other charts in Canada and beyond.

Sarah’s third studio album, Tripping To Ecstasy followed in 1993 and like others, remains on top. Her fourth album, Surfacing was released in 1997 and turned out to be her best-selling album of all time. Sarah was also notable for the mind-blowing song Angel, a song she did about the terrible heroin overdose that claimed the life of keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin. The song became an inspiration to many, including Darryl McDaniels who admitted to changing his pattern of life after touching it.

She released her fifth studio album Rémanence in 2003, a Christmas album Wintersong followed in 2006. The singer released her eighth studio album Shine On in January 2014 and her 9th Wonderland in 2016.

An announcement of Sarah’s separation from Sood came in September 2008, and their divorce was finalized the same year.

In 1994, Uwe Vandrei filed a lawsuit against Sarah with the allegations that the letters he wrote to her formed the basis of her single titled “Possession”. The complainant was a confirmed stalker whose avowed purpose for filing the complaint was simply to be close to the singer. Because of this development, Sarah had to step up security every time she was in the same place with Uwe. However, the trial never saw the light of day as Uwe was found dead in a suspected suicide.
